John M Duffey, Sr.
Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer
Clinician - In person, Weekends
AbD, MAcc, CWT, NCC, CCTP, PE, CCBT, LPC, PhD
U.S Army Combat Veteran

John M. Duffey, Sr., AbD, MAcc, NCC, CCBT, TPET, LPC is the designer, lead executive, and clinical operations executive for the Alabama Institute for Behavioral Health, PC. He is a well-decorated U.S. Army combat veteran and former war crimes and crimes against humanity investigator.  John's clinical focus is on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Acute Stress Responses to traumatic experiences.  He has over 6,000 hours in direct clinical treatment experience for PTSD, MDD, GAD, and other mental health disorders related to and resulting from singular and multiple traumatic experiences ranging from military combat, domestic violence, sexual assault, near-death accidents, and criminal violence.  He has published over 17 peer-reviewed research papers covering PTSD related nightmares, sleep disturbances, headaches, flashbacks, and treatment modality efficacy.

John also takes time to teach and mentor new and developing clinical counselors, clinical psychologists, and clinical social workers by providing field experience and site supervision.  He is well-known for providing high-quality and "no holds barred," real-time clinical field experiences in a safe and well controlled learning and clinical treatment environment.

Starting and growing a company isn’t something new to John.  After leaving law enforcement in the Atlanta Area, just after the 911 attacks, he founded Joint Military Development Services, LLC which provided anti-terrorism intelligence support operations and pre-deployment preparedness training for the engagement of insurgents in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from 2001 to 2010.  In nine years, he managed the growth of a small business started in his garage to a $234 million per year corporation.

John developed behavioral and psychological algorithms designed to accurately predict foreign leadership reactions to specified decisions and/or actions by the President (POTUS) and/or government of the United States.

John's focus on helping the underserved population of U.S. military veterans and their immediate families resulted in his being awarded the Honorary Title of "Colonel," by Alabama Governor Kay Ivy, in the state militia.  .

Duffey is no foreigner to the industry and profession of mental health and social services, either.  He was the program director for multiple programs for the State of Georgia.  He directly managed the Housing First Program, Balance of State, and other programs that provided direct mental health and social support services to those citizens who were indigent and/or homeless, addicted to drugs, or in need of special mental health services not covered by their insurance and/or unaffordable to them but critical to their functioning.

John’s clinical experience includes over 15,000 hours of direct clinical counseling and nearly 12,000 hours of public assistance services through volunteer operations with the American Legion.  He has a BS and MS in Terrorism Intelligence Studies from the American Military University, BA in Psychology from Auburn University and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University.  He is designated AbD by Liberty University and is in the process of completing a PsyD from Walden University in Mental Health Leadership.
